Conquest of Mars was originally developed by Champ Games for Atari back in 2005, based on Atari's "Caverns of Mars" which was originally released for their line of 8-bit computers in 1981. The 2600 version was intended to be included on a future version of their Flashback console, but unfortunately, the deal fell through and the game was instead published by AtariAge as "Conquest of Mars".
In 2024, Atari reached out to Champ Games and asked if we would be interested in publishing Conquest of Mars through Atari under it's original name of "Caverns of Mars". In this case, the second time was the charm and we are pleased to announce that the game is now a licensed official version of Caverns of Mars and is available exclusively from Atari as a physical cartridge. Please see below for more details.
In the year 4114, the planet Earth and the planet Mars are locked in a century-long war. The Martians have devised a plan to destroy Earth by unleashing the power of their latest weapon: The Destruct-o-Bomb!
The Martians have hidden the bombs deep inside the caverns of Mars. Your mission is to navigate through the depths of the red planet while battling the Martian defenses, including rockets, laser gates, phantom mines and the and winding tunnels. Activate the bombs inside the planet and escape to the surface before it explodes!
Do you have what it takes to defeat all six caverns and eliminate the Martian threat once and for all?
GOOD LUCK!
NOTE: The rights for Conquest of Mars has been acquired by Atari and the game has be renamed "Caverns of Mars".
